In the fall of 2009...
The Goodfight, a band from Atlanta, GA, announced that they will give away 100% of the revenue generated by their new record "Good & Evil" towards providing thirsty people with access to clean water. The idea is to sell 10,000 records and The Goodfight is enlisting everyone who likes good music and has a heart that beats to fight the good fight and get involved.
The plan is simple. Buy a record, listen to it, tell all your friends, and change the lives of people around the world.
1 out of every 6 people in the world...
...DO NOT have access to clean water and unclean water is the #1 cause of death...period. 10 dollars can help provide a lifetime of clean water for 1 person.
Buy a record, save a life.
Frequently Asked Questions:
If I buy a record where does the 10 dollars go?
Great question. TGF 10000 is supporting the work of charity: water. They are involved in building wells and training nationals to maintain those wells on 5 continents in some of the most desperate places on earth. You can find out how they are fixing the problem at charitywater.org
Why did you decide to do this?
well...there's really two reasons we thought this would be a good idea.
#1 The Goodfight strongly believes in a principle that Jesus taught, which is "love your neighbor as yourself" When we started thinking about what that looks like and how we could make a difference...using our art was the only place to start. Music is what we do and who we are, so it only made sense that music is where we would start giving to try and make a difference.
#2 We wanted to give people a reason to by music again and make that process exciting. We're idealist and so, while everyone else is either giving their music away or getting it stolen, we wanted to try to bend the curve.
Who is the Goodfight?
The Goodfight is Jonathan Rich, a songwriter from Atlanta, GA, and a bunch of his friends who randomly show up for live appearances in no logical form or fashion.
Why Water?
When we started thinking about giving all of our money away, there were a lot of good organizations and charities that came to mind. After a few months of thinking and praying and thinking and talking to people and praying and thinking....water just made sense. Unsafe, unclean water is at the root of every issue linked to poverty. If you can provide clean water for a village, that village will naturally have less sickness, less poverty, less hunger, and less death. So clean water became the obvious choice.
How can you give all your sales away? How is that possible?
Very carefully. We were extremely cautious in the money we spent producing the record so that the recouping process would be quick and easy. When the time comes to re-print the record (we only print 1000 at a time), we hope to pay for that out of touring and other merch sales [t-shirts and stickers] to offset the cost and make sure all 10 dollars spent on the record goes straight to charity: water. In addition charity: water has a 100% giving initiative where they provide for their own operational costs so your money goes directly to the need. And finally...we are offering a digital version which you can download from this site. If you buy the record digitally [please buy digitally!] there are no offsetting costs for us and the money goes straight to charity: water!
